Birchwood is made up of more than 1100 acres, and is home to more than 5,000 residents. Most of the streets around here are named after trees, and the neighborhood features Squalicum Creek Park, Birchwood Park, and the future Storybrook Park. Birchwood Elementary School and Shuksan Middle School are located here, along with Bellingham Technical College (and Alderwood Elementary is nearby too, just outside city limits to the west).

Squalicum Creek Park is one of Bellingham’s newer parks: 36 acres of space for outdoor recreation, featuring sports fields, a basketball court, and an off-leash dog park. It also connects to the Bay to Baker trail and the Birchwood Park & pump track.
