CGNW Recommends: Overflow Taps
It’s one of our favorite 21+ places in Bellingham. Situated on Newmarket St, just a couple minutes’ walk from the Cohen Group HQ, Overflow Taps is a great spot in Barkley Village to pop in for a pint. And not just any pint. Overflow sources its ciders and beers from Portland to the BC lower mainland, and of course, great local breweries like Bellingham’s own Wander Brewing and Chuckanut Brewing.
Pair your beer with the perfect snack or dinner, because Overflow Taps is outside-food friendly! They even have a Menu Book, with menus from local restaurants. You can have Viking Food delivered, or bring in your own munchies from MOD, Mix, or another of the local hotspots.
Monday night is Trivia Knight in Bellingham, with everything from the 1980s to Friends as categories. (See their events page for plenty of other ongoing happenings.) Our favorite event (not that we’re biased, right?) is the Clean Water Happy Hour that our team hosts on the fourth Saturday of each month.
It ties in with the larger mission of Overflow Taps, and we’re just thrilled we get to ‘tap’ into (get it?!) that effort - providing clean water to underserved populations
According to charity:water, there are 663 million people worldwide living without access to safe water. Treks to distant sources sometimes takes hours, pulling people away from education and economic opportunities. Unsafe water poses serious health risks for all ages.
For every pint sold, Overflow Taps donates $0.25 to charity:water. This non-profit organization has funded and coordinated over 40,000 water projects in 27 countries. These projects don't stop at one-time clean water pump installations in a community - as crucial as that is. Charity:water uses sensors and cloud technology to continuously monitor water quality, flow, and usage.
The business at Overflow has raised $36,511 to date, funding 2 projects. They continue to donate for every pint sold, and events hosted at Overflow or the breweries that participate in the Charity Pints Program all boost contributions to this worthy cause.
So next time you're in the Barkley area and looking for a hangout spot or hankering for some after-work beer, stop on in!
