CGNW Recommends: Super Duper Teriyaki
I’d never been to Super Duper. I’d never even heard of it until recently. But last night I pulled up to a semi-sketchy looking building on the corner of Harris and 21st St. If it wasn’t still daylight, and if I didn’t know the backstory to this place, and if I wasn’t a hungry journalist with a deadline, I might have turned back.
But it was totally worth it.
Cooper is our resident pro on the topic of Super Duper. He worked there for more than two years and knows the owner and cook, and the ins and outs of the place, probably better than anyone. When I was checking out reviews of this place, I sent this one to him, and his response was, and I quote, “This is shockingly accurate...I could literally picture that whole scene in my head.”

I arrived at this little hole-in-the-wall before 6pm, and it wasn’t too busy yet, especially with it being Tuesday night. There was maybe a 10 minute wait to get my food; keep an ear out - the owner hollers out the menu number, not a customer number or name.
The food is the bomb. Gut bomb, that is. The Special #3 is packed with teriyaki chicken, chicken katsu with a special sauce, two potstickers, two egg rolls and plenty of rice. After ingesting ? of the contents in the styrofoam container, I was happy, satisfied, and also seriously craving a fruit or vegetable.
There was plenty left for lunch today (and it’s also good cold!), so the next time you’re in Fairhaven and needing some comfort food, brave the WWU crowds and go for the Special #3!
