Today, we’re looking at the Gamwell House, a still-beautiful home on 16th Street in Fairhaven. Roland Gamwell was Park Commissioner, and superintended the renovation of Elizabeth Park - including the blasting of dynamite for planting trees.

Over the course of the late 1800s and into the early 1900s, the small townships of Fairhaven, Bellingham, New Whatcom and Sehome blossomed and united into the thriving Bellingham community they are today. Our “Stories of Bellingham” series dives into the stories the grand homes and local landmarks built during that time period.
